The 19th
Dynasty
The 19th Dynasty began around 1293 BC
and ended around 1185 BC. This Dynasty,
along with Dynasties XVIII and XX, is referred
to as the New Kingdom. Pharaohs of the dynasty
include Ramses I, Seti I, Ramses II, Merneptah,
Amenmesses, Seti II, Siptah and Queen Twosret.
Like the previous dynasty, this was a time of
great prosperity for Egypt, as is demonstrated by
the lavish works of art and architecture of this period.
Many pharaohs of this dynasty felt that they must make
up for the neglectful behavior shown to the traditional
gods during the Amarna period by erecting many temples
and shrines to Amen, Osiris, Isis, Set and others.
